The objective of this project was to renovate an existing surgical ward in a 1980’s Medical Center for a Pediatrics Intensive Care Unit and Clinical Support Space. The entire “core” service area was remodeled to create an environment which pushes the paradigm of the typical stark white hospital environment. A full height separation was essential to isolate the new pediatric intensive Care unit from the new General Pediatrics ward. The design concept was to integrate a glass wall with etched art glass to provide an inviting and non threatening entrance which would also regulate entry and provide an effective barrier. A conventionally framed wall with appropriately placed windows and a painted graphic mural accomplished the desired effect.
